Hey there,
Long time reader… and a used-to-be poster, however, I completely forget what my username was here so many years ago.
Want cheap manga with free worldwide delivery? Absolute bargain for anime lovers old and ne. Available for $99.95srp, the specially-priced 17-disc set ROBOTECH: THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL SERIES will also feature four exclusive bonus discs with more than 10 hours of bonus content – much of which is new to DVD. The deal was brokered by Content Media Corporation, the worldwide distributor of the series.
So any oldschool anime fan probably knows about the Robotech movie, and how it was a huge flop. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotech_The_Movie What exists out there for it is pretty much some captures from VHS. The Movie blendered Megazone 23, some scenes from Southern Cross, and a whole new animated ending together.
Currently I’m working on a project to restore Robotech: The Untold Story to DVD quality using the recent Megazone 23 DVDs, the recent Southern Cross DVDs, and footage from the international version of Megazone 23 part 2 (the original ending sequence.)
I’ve always wanted to watch this in better-than-VHS quality, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I feel this weird chapter in the Robotech saga needs to be restored and preserved.
Currently, I have everything but the ending sequence in DVD quality.
So I’m coming here, hoping for some help. 😃
-First, the hardest. I need the alternate ending. This is just a matter of finding someone who happens to have one of the two following DVDs. They’re both the ‘International’ version of Megazone part 2.
–First is the extras disk for this game: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PS3-Megazone-23-Aoi-Garland-Limited-Edition-USED-Japan-/370159606164?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item562f3b5994#ht_1985wt_1022 It’s a DVD with this International version on it, and it has, at the very beginning, the original footage.
–Secondly, there was apparently an extras disk you could get for ordering all three parts of Megazone in Japan that also has this version of MZ part 2 on it.
I’m hoping someone out there happens to have one or the other, and is willing to pull the scenes off the disk for me. The game is 70 dollars, and that’s pretty steep for a game I’m not going to play.
-I wasn’t a big fan of the Southern Cross portion of Robotech, so I have no idea which episode the footage they pulled for this movie is from. I have Southern Cross, I just don’t know which episode to pull the footage from. If someone has an idea of which episode(s) this movie pulls video from, that would be awesome.
-I need to figure out which font they used for the titling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYxduwj7DLU&feature=related here. I haven’t done any searching yet, though the font looks super familiar.
I need to figure out where the generic starfield/cosmos footage from the beginning of the movie were from. I need to ascertain if this is yoinked from something like Macross, Southern Cross, or Mospeada, or if it’s completely original footage they created.
Thanks so much for your time!

SAN DIEGO, CA, July 21, 2011 – Long before the current live action Transformers franchise took over the box office and introduced giant alien robots to a new generation, there was a sweeping animated sci-fi epic that delivered “mecha” to the masses: Robotech. Arriving on U.S. airwaves in the mid-80s via syndication, the legendary space opera – one of the very first anime imports -- helped to usher in the multi-billion dollar anime industry and now, through the cult classic curators at A+E Networks Home Entertainment, the influential series will be reborn on DVD. Working in close conjunction with original Robotech producer Harmony Gold, the franchise will be available in a handsomely-designed collector’s set featuring all 85 re-mastered episodes of the engaging and dramatic anime classic.
A sweeping science-fiction anime epic, ROBOTECH was set at the turn of the millennium, when a mysterious spacecraft crash-landed on a South Pacific island. The secrets of alien knowledge aboard this vessel were unlocked, leading to the development of “Robotechnology” and the creation of a vast arsenal of robotic “mecha” to defend the Earth against the alien threats that would eventually strike, attempting to lay claim to the mysterious power source known as “protoculture.” Told through the eyes of characters caught in a successive series of three extraterrestrial invasions, the saga was the first anime series that many fans had seen, and is often credited with the explosion of anime fandom that continues to grow in the U.S. today.
The cornerstone of a blockbuster franchise that has spawned dozens of movies, books, toys, video games and comic books, ROBOTECH was originally licensed from Japan’s Tatsunoko Studios, adapted from three different series and re-edited and re-dubbed into English. Because ROBOTECH hailed from three completely different anime series, Harmony Gold joined them into a cohesive narrative by splitting them into three distinct chapters, each representing a different generation of the saga: THE MACROSS SAGA (36 episodes), THE ROBOTECH MASTERS (24 episodes) and THE NEW GENERATION (25 episodes). These are also informally referred to as “The First Robotech War,” “The Second Robotech War” and “The Third Robotech War” respectively.
Aside from featuring all 85 half-hour episodes of the original series (re-mastered from original elements for this release), ROBOTECH: THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL SERIES also includes over ten hours of bonus programming:
• The Making of Robotech Documentary – NEW to DVD
• Robotech Music Videos – NEW to DVD
• Robotech Overview – NEW to DVD
• Alternate versions of select Robotech episodes – NEW to DVD
• Robotech: The Movie supplementals (including several sequences NEW to DVD)
• Macross Original Pilot – 70 minute extended version - NEW to DVD
• Promotional reel of Robotech Launch in China – NEW to DVD
• Over an hour of deleted scenes
• Robotech: The Sentinels (with optional audio commentary)
• Robotech: The Sentinels promotional video
• Macross Original Pilot – Parts 1, 2 and 3
• Mospeada Original Pilot – Part 1
• Original opening and closing animations
• Galaxy of the Stars - Harmony Gold promotional reel
• Toy Commercial and Videogame presentation reels
• International clips for all three Robotech Wars
• A vast stills appendix containing character bios, model sheets, pre-production art, comic book covers, and merchandise galleries
• And much, much more!
Voted #34 on the “Top 100 Animated Series of All Time” by IGN.com, ROBOTECH will also be released day-and-date in several additional configurations. THE FIRST ROBOTECH WAR (THE MACROSS SAGA; 5 discs), THE SECOND ROBOTECH WAR (THE ROBOTECH MASTERS; 4 discs) and THE THIRD ROBOTECH WAR (TRHE NEW GENERATION; 4 discs) will also be available for fans both new and old.
With interest in “mecha” at an all-time high, don’t miss out on this landmark in anime history from the guardians of classic TV DVD at A+E Networks Home Entertainment.

SilentDues review
In terms of the Remastered 85, those are the exact same, meaning the same updated/altered sound effects, additional footage (nudity & all), and arc-exclusive Opening/Ending sequences. However, the encodes are totally different with new DVD menus, as are the episode counts per disc. As I also just explained, we get all new extras, such as:
'Carl Macek's Robotech Universe' -- The EPIC documentary piece celebrating both the life of Carl Macek and 25th anniversary of the Robotech series, also has a bit of sneak-peek footage of Love Live Alive, all new interviews with the VAs and producers.
'Robotech: the Sentinels' -- A Remastered and re-edited version of the feature which used to be called 'Robotech II: The Sentinels', this new cut is much more in line with the Remastered 85 and serves a stronger transition into The Masters with subtle changes (like the 2022 title) and a new ending.
(Spanish version also included)
'Robotech the Movie: The Untold Story' -- At last, we get a version of this obscure feature on DVD, the only hitch is the Megazone 23 material has been removed for licensing issues while the Southern Cross side still presents a cohesive story,
(Spanish version also included)
'Alternate Original Episodes/Scenes' -- Episodes 1-4 & certain scenes of eps 25-27, as originally aired for the first time in 1985, can now be seen with their original music cues and sound effects as options to watch.
'Macross: Extended Pilot': The extended version of Harmony Gold's original Macross dub can now be seen in its entirety, first three episodes worth of material before the formula was changed to Robotech.
There are other new things. A very cool selection of music videos for one, a featurette on a 2005 con done over in China, and this site's own Robotech overview can now be seen on DVD for the first time... amongst other extras! Nearly everything from the Protoculture/Legacy extras have been imported, including Carl Macek's commentaries now on Macross' Extended pilot and Remastered Sentinels.
Only thing is there are some exclusions (Codename: Robotech, that 1986 'Point of View' interview with Carl, certain promos) that haven't been brought over, but at least we still have those on the prior releases.
