Amplitude Studios revealed the eighth and final faction for sci-fi strategy sequel Endless Space 2. The Unfallen are a race of peaceful tree-folk who prefer a slow and steady expansion as they spread peace to the galaxy.

Strategy Endless Space 2 - The Unfallen - Prologue The Unfallen have only ever known their homeworld of Koyasil, preferring to peaceably study what is near rather than discover what is far. They were content with this slow development that they refer to as the 'Long Sleep' - the period from their rise to sentience to the modern era. For brand-new systems with no population, this is a powerful asset because planets that would take other factions perhaps 15 turns to colonize on a new system take only 2 or 3 for the Unfallen.
The Unfallen were created by Amplitude’s Games2Gether community. Fans could vote and help design the race’s aesthetics, background lore, and game mechanics and features. More than 100 proposals were given on Amplitude’s forums before they were narrowed down to the hippie space trees. Amplitude Studios have been using their Games2Gether philosophy since their first game, Endless Space, launched in 2012. They’ve cultivated a strong relationship with fans of their strategy games, including Endless Legend and Dungeon of the Endless, both released in 2014.
To promote Endless Space 2’s upcoming final release, Amplitude has begun releasing videos based on each of the four X’s. So far you can watch Explore and Expand that help explain different aspects of the strategy game.
Endless Space 2 has been available via Steam Early Access since last October. Like its predecessor, Endless Space 2 is a 4X turn-based strategy title where you must Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate. Online multiplayer was added to Early Access in March.
Endless Space 2 is available in Standard and Deluxe Edition. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the official soundtrack, Pathfinder Academy Heroes and Pathfinder Hero Ships. If you purchase the Deluxe Edition while it’s in Early Access, you’ll receive a Cravers Prime fleet skin, forum avatars and titles, and 2000 Games2Gether points.
The final release date for Endless Space 2 is next Friday, May 19.
Amplitude Studios finally revealed the eighth and final major faction for their sci-fi grand strategy game, Endless Space 2, the Unfallen. The Unfallen civilization was completely designed by the community, utilizes gameplay modeled around a tree metaphor, with their home-world being the trunk, as they slowly expand via their tendrils – colonizing systems that are nearest their home. To lose their home-world is to lose their entire empire, as the Unfallen must maintain contact with their home-world to survive. So, they're basically a hive-society. Are we sure they shouldn't look more like bees?
Players of the Unfallen will favor the 'slow and steady' pacifist style of play, rather than rushing out to conquer as quickly as possible – expanding their 'branches' as they go, while seeking symbiosis with the other factions and providing bonuses to their allies. The Unfallen are also in synch with nature and have the unique ability to awaken the Guardians, beings that normally lie dormant on planets, which when awoken, provide benefits to their owner and friends, and penalties to their foes. The Unfallen were designed in several phases by fans via Games2Gether – each phase reflecting an aspect of the new faction; the gameplay, the visuals, and the narrative. Basically though, the Unfallen are the support race. They're good to have on your side, but definitely more of the long term strategy.
If you want things done quickly, these are definitely not the guys to go with, because if you lose your home-world, well, you're done.
This is likely far from the last we'll see of the Unfallen before launch. They weren't in the Explore trailer that was recently unveiled, but they might be part of those other 'X's.
